Our storyHorses have been a huge part of Emily’s life starting when she was 7 years old when she got her first horse. Now, 24 years later she and her husband Tom introduce you to their equestrian facility.
Emily obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science with a Minor in Community and International Development from the University of Vermont. Soon after, Emily earned a Connecticut Teaching Certificate and her Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education and Extension from North Carolina State University. Tom obtained his Associate’s Degree in Horticulture from Naugatuck Valley Community College and was the Assistant Superintendent of the Watertown Golf Club prior to working on the farm full time. In addition to the formal education the couple received, both Emily and Tom have extensive professional and practical experience. Emily rode on the Equestrian Team for the University of Vermont, learned natural horsemanship techniques, and taught Hunter/Jumper lessons at Rustling Winds Stables. She also worked as a veterinary assistant at multiple animal hospitals and taught Veterinary Science at Nonnewaug High School. Tom’s degree and knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping along with his meticulous and never ending enthusiasm, adds endless value to the equestrian center. Tom’s grounds keeping skills and Emily’s equine experience, teaching, and veterinary knowledge, unite to offer exceptional care for you and your horse at Chestnut Grove. |
